I\u2019m staining wood today. Country Oak is what they decided to call this stain. I believe it just darkens the contrast and makes it appear to be aged a bit. Maybe I should have used some of this when I was trying to pass as 21? Hmmm. Now I just wait till the gassing out of the fumes takes place. Probably a day and I can rub the heck out of it and do it again. Sunday I\u2019ll put a China native organic product called Tung Oil, (That\u2019s T U N G for those raising an eye brow) on the pieces and let that gas out for a day and then repeat. I\u2019ve decided that applying stains and finishes on the products I make allow the finish to get everywhere smoothly and without building up in the corners or joints. Sanding and buffing is mush easier, too. Imagine being able to reach that itch on your back with the greatest of ease and not looking like your doing a Yoga stretch.
\nThe batch of Cherry Candy dispensers that I just completed are really making me feel like they are my best ones; however, those ones before this were superbly fabulous, too. (Jeff clears throat)
\nNine Cherry and 5 Oak large dispensers along with about 20 Desktop Candy dispensers will do it for the December 1st show. Ok, it\u2019s my first show and no jitters yet!
\nI am also cranking out 40 wooden soap holders that are a hit. I make them for the Renaissance Festival and this time there is no middle person involved. Three-sums in business get messy. I think. Anyways, these are small and quick little sales so having 40 of them may be just enough.
\nHaving to turn the heat on in the shop is nice but it is not my favorite thing by choice. I like all-natural air and a nice breeze. I said breeze not briefs! Heated air saw dust and dryness may be vacation weather for Pinocchio; however, call me Gepetto and I\u2019ll take lake side cabin with a chance of rain!
\nWood working is very fun when creating and building stuff that is unique. Sure, when something is hand-made each one is unique but just like all the rest. I like one of a kind pieces. Exotic woods, character built in knots, burrs and veining. Each piece has individuality not unlike us. With a good practice of skills and the creation of opportunity who knows what might come out of the wood. And who knows what individuals will become with good skills and opportunities.
\nI am blessed to have gained the skills and given the opportunity to express my creativity in wood working and helping others. Sometimes I just think about the 84 unique candy dispensers that led me to make the 85th one. Even more different than being the same thing. No one really notices an individual Penguin when passing and iceberg, but if they are anything like my candy dispensers, or people I know, they are all uniquely different in a very special way.
\nI just love the differences in people, places and things. Sometimes, I\u2019m in the audience and sometimes I have to know the audience, all in all, I am still the same, just creating the moments differently. Life is about creating moments.
