{"id":4780,"date":"2019-03-22T22:38:01","date_gmt":"2019-03-23T03:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blindabilities.com\/?p=4780"},"modified":"2019-03-22T22:38:08","modified_gmt":"2019-03-23T03:38:08","slug":"minnesota-state-academy-for-the-blind-msab-2019-summer-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blindabilities.com\/?p=4780","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota State Academy for the Blind (MSAB) 2019 Summer Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/msab.msa.state.mn.us\">Visit MSAB on the web!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Minnesota-State-Academy-for-the-Blind-190000194387107\/\">MSAB on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following programs will run from July 15 &#8211; July 26 from 8:00 am &#8211;\u00a02:00 pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration will be held on: Sunday, July 14 from 3:30 pm &#8211; 4:30 pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please Note:&nbsp;Applications must be received no later than Friday, May 10, 2019.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Application must include the student\u2019s most recent IEP.&nbsp; Space is limited in summer programs.&nbsp; Decisions, in conjunction with other factors, will be based on a first come, first serve basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This Year&#8217;s Theme: &#8220;Let&#8217;s Communicate!&#8221; Finding mutual connections to enhance communication.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our theme-based curriculum consists of reading, writing, math, technology, physical education, music, art, social skills, listening skills and home living. This program is designed to create a learning environment for students. Our students will be able to participate in group projects within the classroom, school, and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Independence 101:&nbsp;<\/strong>The Independence 101 Summer Program will offer opportunities for both middle school and high school age students.&nbsp; Each group of students will participate in activities encompassing the three areas of transition (postsecondary, employment, and independent living).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Focusing on increasing functional learning skills, this program is designed to create an active learning environment for students entering grades 7-12.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elementary:&nbsp;<\/strong>Designed to meet the needs of academic elementary-aged students (grades K-6), with an emphasis on academic and functional reading, writing, math, technology, physical education, music, library, art, social skills, listening skills and home living.&nbsp; The goal of the program is for students to continue work on the identified essential goals of their individual educational plan.<strong>Students with Multiple Disabilities:&nbsp;<\/strong>This program is designed to meet the extended year service needs of students ages 5-21. The overall program focus is to maintain basic functional skills while integrating home living, self-help, and technology skills. Students will maintain individual educational plan goals relating to self-sufficiency and independence, and functional academics. The program components consist of functional reading, writing, math, technology, physical education, music, library, art, social skills, listening skills and home living.&nbsp;<strong>Cost:<\/strong>&nbsp;All programs are free to parents and students.
