While Apple does not push the updates to the App Store as much as some of us would like, doing a refresh gesture can maximize the app updates that are available.

Two Refresh Gesture Techniques

First, get the screens attention by touching a random area on the screen or page you want to refresh, then use one of the following gestures:

The single finger double tap and hold then slide down and let go.

The 3 finger pull down. This is my fav.

One area in particular that these gestures work nicely is in the App Store. Note: If you have App Updates set to automatic, this will not be necessary. To change or to set up auto app updating, see below.

When checking for app updates,

Single finger double tap on the App Store icon.

On the Today screen, single finger swipe left to right one time to My Account. Note: if you do not land on the Today screen when opening the App Store, Single finger double tap on the Today tab in the tab bar at the bottom left corner of the screen. Then single finger swipe left to right one time to My account.

Single finger double tap on My Account

Single finger Swipe left to right down to, “Available Updates” or “Updated Recently”.

Refresh the screen by doing either the single finger double tap and hold then slide down and release, or, do the 3 finger swipe down from the top and release.

Note: the number of available updates may appear or increase significantly if updates are available.

You can use these gestures to refresh web sites in Safari or other apps. Whilst the Safari Address/Tab bar has now been adapted with a refresh button, giving us another method of conducting a refresh.

To change your app update settings from or to Automatic do the following:

Go to settings and single finger double tap.

Single finger swipe left to right down to App Store and single finger double tap.

Single finger swipe left to right down past the Automatic Downloads heading.

Single finger double tap on Apps to on or off.

Single finger swipe left to right once more down to App Updates.

Single finger double tap to turn App Updates on or off.

Single finger swipe left to right past Cellular Data heading.

Single finger double tap on Automatic Downloads on or off.

If choosing to turn on cellular Data for Automatic Downloads, single finger swipe left to right one more time down to “App Downloads, Ask if over 200 mb” and single finger double tap to turn on or off.

Single finger swipe left to right down to, “Video Auto-Play”, single finger double tap to turn on or off.

Single finger swipe down to, “In-App Ratings and Revues”.
