Podcast Summary:
While attending the 2023 NFB Convention in Houston Texas, Blind Abilities podcast host Simon Bonenfant sat down with Jeff Gardener, team leader at Irie-at. Founded in 2011, Irie-at offers a wide range of products such as braille displays, braille embossers with tactile graphics, and low-vision aids such as portable magnification systems.
Jeff gives listeners an overview of their braille display offerings, sold in conjunction with the Eurobraille corporation, and describes the B.note 20 and 40 cell braille displays, as well as the B.book Windows Notetaker.
From the Eurobraille Website: “B.note combines the functions of braille display (USB and bluetooth connection, compatibility with the various screen readers on the market Jaws, NVDA, Super Nova, Voiceover, Talk-Back / Braille-Back, Brltty, Orca, etc.) with note-taking functions.
No need to move your hands to find the forward or backward keys, B.note‘s 2-position routine cursors make reading easier. 20 or 40 characters with or without Perkins keyboard, without bluetooth and internal functions”.
Here is the description of the b. Book Notetaker:
“B.book is equipped with a 32-cell braille display, a 10-key keyboard, 2 joysticks, 6 function keys, and a 10-hour battery life. No need for a computer/braille display setup, you will be able to navigate through the Internet or manage your emails thanks to Wi-Fi connection: B.book will do the job! Even though the integrated software esysuite provides a screen reader feature, a blind user may still use any other screen reader available in the market: Jaws, Supernova, … or other compatible Windows software needed. The integrated Esysuite software, that was already set in the esytime evolution device, has already proven itself and remains a sure value in the world of education and teaching for the blind. Esysuite will turn B.book into a notebook independent of Windows 10, and not requiring advanced computer skills.”
While these are the two main braille display models that Jeff discusses in the podcast, be sure to check the Irie-AT website to browse their other braille display offerings.
Jeff also gives listeners an overview of their magnification offerings. Contracted with a company called Sight Care, Irie-AT is proud to offer the CloverBook Pro.
From the Irie-AT Website:
“CloverBook Pro – the foldable, large-screen magnifier that everyone is talking about!
